Radical and Radical Chain Chemistry

Common Radicals Used as Initiators

Azobisisobutyronitrile

Azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN)   isobutyronitrile radicals.
Azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) is a common initiator which upon thermolytic (heat) or photolytic cleavage produces 2 isobutyronitrile radicals.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide   Phenyl Radical
Benozyl Peroxide is a common initiator for radical formation, specifically the free radical addition of chloroform to olefins by the formation of a phenyl radicals.
