Rome’s Republic fell due to the popularity of Julius Caesar. Caesar won many battles as a leader in the Roman army, and was appointed as a counsul in the Roman government. Caesar’s popularity eventually made him more powerful then the Roman Republic. Caesar was assassinated by Roman senators, beginning the age of the Roman Empire. Rome was now ruled by a single person, called a Caesar.

Step #2 Research different Roman Emporers. Record positive, and negative things that they did for the Roman Empire. Make a timeline, showing each Emporer, and listing something that the Emporer accomplished. Use the following websites to do your research:

Step #3 Write two short position papers, so that you are ready to argue for either side, during the forum. Use the information that you gathered during your internet research to prepare the papers. The first should be supporting the Roman Republic, and explaining why it best served the Roman people. The second should support an emporer ruling Rome. Use facts that you found to write each of the two papers. Be ready to present the arguments covered in your paper at the forum.
