Curriculum
Elementary School
General music is taught by general music specialists in
each of the elementary schools.
Elementary choirs supplement the classroom instruction and
meet once per week outside the school day.
Instrumental music instruction on band and orchestra instruments
is begun in fourth or fifth grade. Band and orchestra experiences
are provided outside the school day.
Middle School
Mixed chorus and girls chorus are among the ensembles available
at the middle level. Groups meet daily during the regular
class schedule. Seventh graders (with the exception of some
instrumental music students) participate in a general music
course as part of the fine arts exploratory block.
Instrumental students may elect to participate in band, orchestra
or jazz band in most schools. Small ensembles are also available
where time allows.
LPS sponsors several district-wide instrumental and vocal
festivals throughout the school year.
