These databases are available to students and staff at Lux Please see your library media specialist for user names and passwords for home access to these databases.

Database Descriptions

Grolier Online Encyclopedia - This site will give the user access to five online encyclopedias which include: Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia and The New Book of Knowledge.

EBSCO - Users can access EBSCO host, a collection of databases which include information from periodicals (many of which are full text), newspapers, health information, an animal encyclopedia, ERIC, a professional collection designed for professional educators and Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia. Users can also access Topic Search which includes current information by subject from a variety of formats. Also available for the young student is Searchasaurus or Primary Search which includes information from children's periodicals and pamphlets.

Wilson Web - Wilson Web is available to all Nebraskans thanks to monies allotted through the Nebraska Legislature. This database gives the user access to Wilson Biographies Plus Illustrated, a comprehensive biographical resource. It also includes OmniFile Full Text Select, a multidisciplinary, full-text database of articles from periodicals. (For home access, click on NebraskAccess and use a parent driver's license number as your login.)

Gale Discovering Collection - Use this database to access information about famous people, multicultural America, cultures around the world, science, U.S. history, world history, poetry and Shakespeare.

TeachingBooks.net - This site features more than 1300 four - to -five-minute movies on well-known authors and illustrators, 1000-plus audiobook excerpts read b authors and actors, links to book guides and lists of author websites.

CultureGrams - Use this database to access information about regions of the world, countries, and states in the United States. Articles about countries include information about the land and climate, history, people, customs and courtesies, lifestyle, society, famous people, recipes. You can also view maps and flags, and hear the national anthem.
