The Hartley reading incentive program is
"Connecting with Books!"
Each month the students set a reading goal with their teacher. This goal varies from grade to grade and from classroom to classroom. For example: some of the younger students set a goal of a certain number of books that they are to have read aloud to them at home and then the parent verifies that the goal has been met, signs the goal sheet, and returns it to the teacher by the end of the month. In the upper grades, students are often required to independently read a determined number of books at a "just right" reading level. All students are also required to respond to what they've read. At the end of each month, any students who have met their goal can choose a book to keep for their very own from our Book Reward Cart. These rewards recognize the readers' progress and give students the message that books are valuable!
