Checking Out Materials
Hartley uses the Horizon "card catalog" and computerized check-out system in the media center.

To check out Items:
1. Bring the items to the check-out counter.
2. Tell the media specialist your last name ( and help spell it)
3. The books will be scanned and checked out to you.

Number of Items:

*Kindergarten and 1st grade students may check-out 1 item each time they come to the media center.
*2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students may check out 2 items each time.
The check-out period is one week.  Students have access to the library daily and may come down each day, with teacher permission, for a new book, provided they return the books that were previously checked out.

Overdue Items:

If a student has overdue items they will not be allowed to check out more until the overdues and/or damage fines are resolved. Fines are assigned for lost or damaged books (not for overdues). Overdue notices will be in the teachers mailboxes at the end of the day on Tues. and should go home in the Wed. folders.

Lost Materials/Fines:

The following letter explains Hartley's policy and procedure for lost materials and/or fines...
Dear__________,
Your child has not yet returned a library book that was checked out from the Hartley Media Center during this school year. Weekly notices concerning the late or lost books have been sent in the Wednesday folder. A copy of this notice is attached to this letter.
There are a number of ways your child can make restitution to the library for the missing book(s).
1. Return the lost book.
2. Pay for the lost book in one payment.
3. Pay for the lost book in small weekly payments.
4. Replace the lost book with another children's book from your home collection.
(The book needs to be appropriate for use by elementary students, unmarked, clean, and without torn pages.)
If the lost book is found after the restitution has been made, the money or replacement book will be refunded.
Thanks for your help in this matter!
Sincerely,
Pam Cassel
