Selecting A Book

Here are some things you can do to make sure you find a book that you will enjoy reading:

*Use the Five Finger Method to decide if it is the right reading level for you to read on your own.
*Read the front cover.
*Read the inside of the book jacket.
*Read the back cover.
*Read the first page of the story.
*Read the last page of the story.
*Check to see how long the book is.
*Is it too long to hold your interest or too short to even bother checking it out?
*Is the subject of the book interesting to you?
*Choose another book from a series you've enjoyed reading in the past.
*Choose another book by an author you've enjoyed reading in the past.
*Look at the illustrations.
*Choose a book from a genre you've enjoyed reading in the past.
*Choose a book that a friend has recommended to you.
*Ask Mrs. Cassel how to find the lexile number of a book on our Hartley Online Catalog.
